Healthy people suddenly got fevers, redness & inflammation of the eyes, insides, throat & tongues, sometimes bleeding & with a terrible smell. Before it had arrived, there had been seeming no sickness & it appears to have come out from nowhere. Some said that the Peloponnesians poisoned their water supply but there were no wells in Piraeus. Suddenly it showed up in Piraeus & then in Athens. The plague is said to have come from Ethiopia, made its way through Egypt & Libya.Supplications & divinations didn’t work either. Doctors were of no use as they didn’t know how to deal with it & often they got sick themselves from tending to the sick. This plague was like no other that anyone else had heard of. It’s said that it had come in from Lemnos. Just as this force began the invasion, a plague struck Athens. The next summer, the Spartans & allies sent 2/3 of their forces to invade Attica under Archidamus.Thucydides – History of the Peloponnesian War, Book 2, Chapter 7 – Second Year of the War-The Plague of Athens-Position and Policy of Pericles-Fall of Potidaea He discussed graft and transplant as prominent metaphors for the migrant and the host in the works of Malika Mokeddem and Jean-Luc Nancy. He has also explored social practices of exclusion and rebranding of the self in the context of the AIDS pandemic in France as well as in Sub-Saharan Africa through the works of Koulsy Lamko and Fanta Regina Nacro. He published Writing and Filming the Genocide of the Tutsi in Rwanda: Dismembering and Remembering Traumatic History in 2010 and co-organized in 2014 an interdisciplinary conference and a film series in Paris on the representations of the Genocide against the Tutsi of Rwanda: Rwanda 1994-2014 : constructions mémorielles et écriture de l’histoire. Plus, there is a very odd fox introduced named Kristofferson, there cousin( Kris-stoff-fer-son). The second reason is I find books with talking animals in it funny. “Boggis, Bunce and Bean, one fat, one short, one lean, these horrible crooks, so different in looks, were non the less of equally mean!” First of all, the three angry farmers have a little catchy song which is this, I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys talking animals, humor and very weird cousins!įantastic Mr.Fox is a fantasy novel, but I think the most interesting part of this novel is the characters. Mr.Fox is considered a crime after stealing chicken from Boggis, duck and goose from Bunce and Turkey with the most refreshing apple cider from Bean. Fox’s family as well as the whole animal neighborhood to kill mr.Fox after all the food he stole from them. He must fix the problem before it gets worse and all the neighborhood animals die. Fox tries to prove to his wife and four small foxes (his children) that he is as fantastic as he seems after getting into trouble with three angry farmers. Fox is a incredible fantasy 82 page read. The world’s “Number 1 Storyteller”, Roald Dahl, is the author of this amazing book, Fantastic Mr. Yes, I can see someone pointing out that this feels like a retread but I was still hooked! And Zdarsky brings the catholic guilt front and center! More so than any writer before. This does shake up the status quo as much as superhero comics are permitted to. I adore how they focus on the violence being an addiction for Matt Murdock and him consistently trying to see if him being a vigilante is doing more harm than good. The tense scene in issue #10 wherein the new detective realises he’s in trouble is very well done. The last issue by Jorge Fornes is excellent though. Matt Murdoch is forever in the ‘man pain’ category and much like most Batman stories the writers don’t tend to deviate too much from the well worn expectations the reader has with Daredevil.Īs with most monthly comics the art is hit and miss and the issues by Sharma don’t hold up to the high standards set by Checchetto. The ten issues collected here are very solid but do little to add a new dimension to Daredevil. The story with the new detective is good and any time we see Kingpin playing the long game is always reliably good. Matt being a playboy and continuing to own it is always fun as he’s easily Marvel’s biggest horn dog. He’s an artist that somehow turns in monthly comics with the highest standards. Marco Checchetto’s art is so, so good and really elevates the first six issues. This collection sees Matt Murdoch once again ditching his Daredevil side and trying to have a more normal life. If lots of people send me their versions, I will not be able to put them all up, but I would like to hear them even if I can’t put them on the site. If you send me your version, either as a tape or an audio file or a MR3 file, I will try to put it up in the LOVE YOU page. In fact, it turned out that parents buy it for grandparents and grandparents buy it for parents and kids buy it for everybody and everybody buys it for kids.Īs a matter of fact, everybody buys it for everybody. This is supposed to be a children’s book. It is selling in retirement communities where kids are illegal. It is selling very well in retirement communities in Arizona. One day the publisher called up and said “This is very strange. My regular publisher felt that it was not really a kid’s book and I ended up doing it with another publisher. Out popped Love You Forever, pretty much the way it is in the book. It was very strange having a song in my head that I couldn’t sing.įor a long time it was just a song but one day, while telling stories at a big theatre at the University of Guelph, it occurred to me that I might be able to make a story around the song. For a long time I had it in my head and I couldn’t even sing it because every time I tried to sing it I cried. I made that up after my wife and I had two babies born dead. Twice in the last five elections, the Electoral College has overridden the popular vote, calling the integrity of the entire system into question-and creating a false picture of a country divided into bright red and blue blocks when in fact we are purple from coast to coast. How can we tolerate the Electoral College when every vote does not count the same, and the candidate who gets the most votes can lose? It deepens our national divide and distorts the core democratic principles of political equality and majority rule. To this day, millions of voters, and even members of Congress, misunderstand how it works. Lawmakers have tried to amend or abolish it more than 700 times. The framers of the Constitution battled over it. “A deeply researched, informative and timely argument in favor of abolishing the Electoral College” - New York Times Listen to an excerpt of the audiobook edition of Let the People Pick the President, written and read by Jesse Wegman. The novel’s title, therefore, refers to not only the idealistic heisters, but also the art museums that knowingly purchased China’s stolen artifacts. These real-life fountainheads were looted from Beijing’s Old Summer Palace by the French and British in 1860 during the Second Opium War. Will and four other Chinese American college students-Will’s sister and several acquaintances-have been contracted by China’s youngest billionaire, the CEO of a shadowy company called China Poly, to steal five bronze fountainheads from museums around the world and return them to China. The problem: He’s actually running the heist. He quickly finds himself caught up in the investigation.
